I was looking to scratch build Astro's old orange & white Super Swinger from the old days. I have a picture of it from the website, but I was trying to find a pic w/ a little more detail & close up. No luck so far. Does anyone out there know who might still run this ride? Or where I could find a pic? Colors don't have to be exact, I have those. And abouts how tall was it? Thanks. |

im not sure who has one, i have seen shows with wave swingers, close to it, but not the same colors, wish i could help you brett, but not too many shows have them anymore. if i find anything out, i will let you know, but i haven't seen any chicago shows with them. butler amusements, and amusements of america has a wave swinger, which is close to the super swinger. __________________ Todd Handler

Reply with quote | #7 | When it was with Glory Amusements, it had those diamond shapes on it. Maybe they were blue, and red. I forgot what colors they were, but it isn't like the Wave Swinger (with the pictures of people on it.)
It also is raised up kind of a bit (I would say as tall as the Scat to get up to where you seat in the seat.) and it had fences that are like curved outwards (white I believe). If we are talking about the same ride, the Super Swings didn't tilt. The Wave Swinger tilts, but this didn't. I think I did remember seeing at an Astro event though (St. Priscilla & Riis Park), but yet I thought Glory had it first. The seats I think are just like the Watkins Swinger seats. 2 by 2 like most of the Swings except Yo-Yo.
I think the carnival worker would sit in the middle of the ride, and pull like a stick forward, or backward. I think a button was on that stick too. __________________ Global RPM (Predator) - Get Ready. Get Set. Reply with quote | #9 | I'm guessing than they first had the Super Swinger (Astro), than sent it to Glory Amusements, and than got it back because I remember it at one spot (with Astro) they had the Ring of Fire (black), Star Dancer, and the Orbiter, and the other spot that had that ride had the Orbiter, and Pharaoh's Fury.
Glory Amusements rides they had that I remember were that Super Swinger (different color I thought), Spider (one year or 2 - not many), Super Sizzler (one year or 2 - not many), Tub of Fun (like teacups, but tubs), Eli Wheel, Fun Slide, and Tilt-A-Whirl. __________________ Global RPM (Predator) - Get Ready. Reply with quote | #10 | Glory was apart of Astro/Allstar. All the rides came from astro and allstar's shows. Astro gave the swings to glory, then glory was no more and gave it back to astro. Few years later it was sold, not sure to who or why. I do miss working on that ride.
Todd, you know who or why they sold it back in the late 90's? __________________ Brian Wayton

Reply with quote | #11 | Wow, I had no idea about that (that Astro was part of Glory). Weren't Astro and Bloomsness separate though besides the fact that I guess they are brothers? I thought it's like Windy City and All Around. They are brothers, but they never joined together.
So, that's why Bloomsness had the Super Sizzler than after Glory went? Hmmm. __________________ Global RPM (Predator) - Get Ready. Get Set. Spin Out. - Ride the Wave (Wipeout) - Force to the 10th Power - Electroshock(Power Surge) - Ping Pong or Tilt-A-Whirl (Yo-Yo) |

im not sure where it went to when they got rid of it. actually with astro and allstar it was blomsness/theabult enterprises. with the super swinger, there was a on/off button on the stick, and there were 2 sticks, start and stop, and one that is the brake, you stand in the middle, and one person at the entrance. yeah brian that was a fun ride to work on, and it did great on business, depending on the spot. __________________ Todd Handler

Yeah, it was a good looking ride. One of my favorites. Thanks for your help guys. Too bad Astro got rid of it. I think they should have kept the Super Swinger, salt water himi & zipper. Did Astro ever have the scrambler in the 80's? I thought i remember it being on their midway. |

I did enjoy that swing ride, but even back than, the diamonds make it look like an older ride. I think if they could, they would be better off painting it like in the video. I think they would might get more business that way, or just without the diamonds. I know we that have seen it before and we like it for what it is, but with the diamonds, it looks like it's aging.
To me, it's like flourescents on an Eli Wheel. That to me makes the ride look older than turbos. Maybe, it's because everything else has turbos on it. I also think that pure metal rides look older like the Scat, and Round-Up for example. They added fiberglass or plastic on the Round-Up, and sold it to become the Zero Gravity. The Zero Gravity (besides being a newer ride) just doesn't look old. It looks like they just made it compared to the Round-Up. I also yellow makes rides look older too.
